Hey, kid! Comic!

Milton Freewater, Jr. has a new comic coming out tomorrow. You can find it in the finer comics shops across this great land of ours.

Of course if you can't wait there's a thrilling preview here.

Does this beer taste old to you?

A crazy scientist has made beer with some really old yeast...

The result is Fossil Fuels Brewing Co., which ferments a yeast strain Cano found in a piece of Burmese amber dating from about 25 million to 45 million years ago. The company -- in which Cano is a partner, along with another scientist and a lawyer -- introduced its pale ale and German wheat beer with a party last month at one of the two Bay Area pubs where Fossil Fuels is made and served.

I, for one, welcome our glowing microbial overlords...

From weirdnewsfiles.com (who would have guessed?) comes news of a gigantic patch of strange glowy water in the Indian Ocean...

Scientists suspect bioluminescent bacteria are behind the phenomenon. Such creatures produce a continuous glow, in contrast to the brief, bright flashes of light produced by “dinoflagellate” bioluminescent organims that are seen more commonly lighting up ship wakes and breaking waves.

Mmmm... Pie chart.

Walter was a NEOCON?!

Okay, actually that makes sense...

From the Slate.com article Walter Sobchak, Neocon:

Watching The Big Lebowski in 2008, it becomes clear that appreciating Walter is essential to understanding what the Coen brothers are up to in this movie, which is slyer, more political, and more prescient than many of its fans have recognized. Perhaps that's because Walter, with his bellowing, Old Testament righteousness and his deeply entrenched militarism, is an American type that barely registered on the pop-culture landscape 10 years ago. He's a neocon.

Opacity

Do you like old abandoned buildings? Me too.

Tom "Motts" Kirsch photographs old, abandoned buildings and posts the photos (along with background information) on his excellent site Opacity. It's definitely worth a look, but if you go, be prepared to be sucked in for a few hours. It's fascinating stuff!

Here's a sample of some of Motts' work...

The true meaning of Easter is...

...trying to burn down the neighboring church.

I, for one, welcome our missile destroying overlords...

Of course what CNN doesn't tell you is that the footage of the missile being attacked is an animated recreation...

The pinnacle of rock

I'm pretty sure Soundgarden was the best cover-band of all time...

Eeek! A Spider!

He's friendly though. You can play with him here.
